Synonym names displayed for SCD and GPCK

RxNav now displays the synonym names when available for Clinical Data (SCD) and Generic Pack (GPCK) Data. The synonym names are available in the RxNorm data set for these data types starting with the July 2009 version.

The following updates were made on June 11, 2009:

Proxy Server support

RxNav now supports clients that use a proxy server or a proxy auto-configuration file. The proxy server settings or proxy configuration file can be specified using the Java Control Panel.

Cursor changes when searching

When the user executes a search in RxNav, the cursor will now indicate a search is in progress. On Windows machines the cursor changes to an hourglass icon. On Linux machines it displays a rotating circle.

BPCK Names in Autosuggest List

Branded Pack (BPCK) names have been added to the autosuggestion list.

The following updates were made on or before February 17, 2009:

RxNorm Version

RxNav displays the version of the RxNorm Data Set when the user positions the mouse over the RxNav icon. The version contains either one or two dates. The first (or only) date is the date of the last monthly release. The second date if present indicates the date of the last weekly release installed.

Autosuggest Feature

RxNav will now display a list of suggested terms in a popup window beneath the search string box. The suggested terms are ingredients or brand names and will be displayed after at least four characters are entered in the search string box. The user can then select an entry from the list using either the mouse or the up/down arrow keys or can continue typing in the search string box.

UNII_CODE Search

A search has been added based on the FDA Unique Ingredient Identifier (UNII) Code. To use, select "UNII_CODE" in the "Search By:" box and enter the identifier in the search field box.

SPL Search

A search has been added based on the FDA Structured Product Labels. To use, select "SPL" in the "Search By:" box and enter the identifier in the search field box.

Multum Identifier Search

A search has been added based on Multum MediSource Lexicon identifiers. The identifiers use the Term type and numeric code. For example: "CD1001". To use, select "MMSL_CODE" in the "Search By:" box and enter the identifier in the search field box.

Multiple Ingredient Search

A new feature to allow users to search on multiple ingredients has been added. To do this, type the ingredient names separated by plus (+) signs in the search field. For example, "acetaminophen + aspirin". RxNav will display all brands which contain at least all of the specified ingredients. Each ingredient will be checked separately for spelling, and alternate suggestions, if any, will be given.

Alternatively, when searching by RXCUI, multiple RXCUIs can be specified in the search field. For example, "161 + 1191" will display all the brands containing aspirin and acetaminophen.

GPCK data

The GPCK data is displayed in the table labeled "Clinical Drug or Pack". To distinguish the GPCK data from the Clinical Drug data, the GPCK data is shaded gray and starts with a double diamond symbol .

BPCK data

The BPCK data is displayed in the table labeled "Branded Drug or Pack". To distinguish the BPCK data from the Branded Drug data, the BPCK data is shaded gray and starts with a double diamond symbol .

Relationships Added

Several new relationship lines have been added to the display that were previously missing. The relationship line has been changed to two distinct lines between the entities, and arrows have been added to indicate the directional flow of the relationships.
